Shaving Like a Leprechaun

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I was inspired by our fair-skinned friend the leprechaun. All the leprechaun drawings I have seen are men with full, red beards. But I noticed there are two distinct groups of leprechauns. The first set has mustaches and the second does not. So for the Irish (and the Irish-at-heart), this week’s blog will focus on shaving your mustache.

The bristles of the mustache are the thickest on your face. As a result, you need to take special care when shaving your upper lip. The best time to shave is after a hot shower or after applying warm water to the face. This will soften up your stubble so it can more easily be cut by the razor blade. Generously apply your shaving gel, and let it sit for a good 30 seconds before shaving. If you are shaving the whole face, start with the cheeks, then move to the neck, and finally end with the mustache. The longer the shaving gel can sit on the face, the more time it will have to help hydrate the hairs and minimize the amount of drag the razor will take as you shave.

If you decide to shave only your mustache and not your beard this St. Patrick’s Day, take your time. If you normally shave your mustache last, then you may notice a difference if you don’t give your mustache stubble enough time to soften up!
